Current Ag Open

The Mon-Dak Ag Open is an annual three day event that showcases and promotes the Mon-Dak region as an ideal place for new agricultural businesses and development.  The event also promotes the irrigation development and potential in the region and the crop diversity taking place on dryland conditions.  The guests in attendance have a unique opportunity to view new agricultural products now growing in the region and the processing of those crops. The tours showcase the agricultural capabilities found within the Mon-Dak region and highlight the area’s potential growth and development.

The event is hosted every year to promote the region as a viable ag producing region on a variety of crops and livestock and to showcase the current and potential ag processing located in the region.  Pulse plants, seed potato production, and a receiving elevator for malt barley are a few of the ag ventures that have developed because of the success of the Ag Open in previous years.

Ag processors from all across the country gather for the Ag Open and tour the Mon-Dak region. The event allows visitors to meet with the banks, area producers, state and local officials, researchers and processors. The concurrent tours travel in all directions from Williston. Not only do the tours raise the visibility of the area, but also provides guests the chance to investigate the many opportunities that exist in our region.

The event starts on the afternoon of the first day with workshops that highlight the region and it’s related industries. Local and regional speakers provide an overview of the different opportunities in the Mon-Dak region. An evening social/mixer follows the Tuesday sessions.

On the second day guests have the opportunity to participate in tours showcasing various aspects of the region. The area county extension ag agents, economic developers, NRCS staff and local agribusiness leaders coordinate the tours. These individuals really make the tours a success with their knowledge of the region and willingness to share their insights with the guests. During each of the tours, guest speakers are on the bus to visit about various aspects of agricultural production and businesses.  Following the tours, an evening social is held.  This is a great time to visit and gain more insight about the Mon-Dak region.

The third day guests have the opportunity to golf and fish. This day provides an opportunity for guests to network on an individual basis with key local people and guests. Local business representatives have put in a lot of time to coordinate these two events in order for the guests to have both an educational and enjoyable visit.

This site details the number of acres regional growers have in particular crops, livestock and irrigation. People can look up specific crops and see what is grown in the Mon-Dak region. There are 12 to 15 counties on each side of the Montana/North Dakota border included in the data, so people can look up a specific crop, find the number of acres grown and where it grows. Currently 18 crops are included on the list.

The Ag Open serves a valuable purpose for this region.  The Ag Open helps market the region to the rest of the country. We encourage you to attend this event and find out how the Mon-Dak region can be a solution for your business.
